For the first time, voters in Massachusetts may participate in “early voting” in person or by mail. The provisions of G.L. c.54, §25B establish a framework for cities and towns to make ballots available early for state elections (and local elections occurring at the same time) for a limited period. This year, early voting will take place from October 24 through November 4. Early voting takes place during a municipality’s regular business hours, and any additional voting hours established by the municipality. Information about early voting must be published in a local paper, and, in most cases, is also available on a municipal website. Additional information about early voting locations can be found on the website of the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Elections Division at the following link: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/EarlyVotingWeb/EarlyVotingSearch.aspx.
