LENOX — Attorney Janet Pumphrey, an appellate attorney in Lenox, has been cited for achievements in her private practice representing statewide clients appealing legal judgments. Pumphrey is also associated with the Boston municipal firm, KP Law, P.C. (formerly Kopelman and Paige, P.C.).
In November, she was named a Super Lawyer in New England by the Thomson Reuters international media and information company. The citation honors lawyers “who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.”
Only 5 percent of attorneys nationwide have been selected as Super Lawyers, according to the Thomson Reuters ratings firm. In New England, 40 lawyers received the award in appellate practice.
Pumphrey also was named recently as one of The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 in Massachusetts. The listing includes “premier trial lawyers from each state or region who meet stringent qualifications as civil plaintiff and-or criminal defense trial lawyers.”
She has handled 250 cases at the Massachusetts Appeals Court, the Supreme Judicial Court, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. The types of cases range widely from murder and narcotics trafficking to white collar crime, municipal law, business litigation, personal injury, property disputes, alimony and child support.
Some of her high-profile cases have attracted media attention in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, ABC News, the TV series “America’s Most Wanted” and “E! The True Hollywood Story” as well as Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.
Pumphrey’ s appellate cases have included a number of Innocence Program criminal clients including a recent success in the Supreme Judicial Court seeking DNA testing to exonerate a client convicted of first degree murder. Her appellate cases have also included a number of cases of first impression including a statutory interpretation of the recently enacted Alimony Reform Act.
In addition to her private appellate practice, Pumphrey is also Of Counsel with KP Law. KP Law represents more than one-third of the state’s 351 cities and towns, including the Berkshire County towns of Lenox, Great Barrington, Williamstown, Dalton, Becket, Hinsdale, New Ashford, Peru, and Sandisfield.
